The Johns.
The Johns consist of Ruby John (fiddle), John Warstler (guitar) and Budd Greenman (fiddle, mandolin, tenor banjo and cajon). The two Johns in the band also perform as a duo under the name, Ruby John. The duo recently played at the University of Chicago Folk Festival, the Ten Pound Fiddle concert series in East Lansing, Michigan, the Indiana Fiddlers’ Gathering and the Emerald Isle Feile, Beaver Island. The Johns have played for dances at the Wheatland Festival, Blissfest, Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival and the Ten Pound Fiddle. They have been asked to play the Ten Pound Fiddle’s largest dance on New Year’s Eve eight consecutive years. This has given them the opportunity to play for nationally renowned callers.
Ruby John is an Odawa Fiddler who performs hard-driving fiddle tunes that she has learned from her mentors ranging through Old-Time, Metis, Irish and Canadian. Ruby continues to teach fiddle and works as a motivational speaker for indigenous children. Budd Greenman is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and luthier. He is also a tunesmith. Budd has a unique gift for writing tunes, some of the best dance tunes played by The Johns are ones composed by Budd. John Warstler plays guitar and provides a solid foundation for the two younger members so they can work their magic.
